13 Reasons Why I Love Winter Season

The colours are fading. The trees are bare. The grass has stopped growing. The temperature is dropping. The air is crisp. The little light that you see is magnificent. Winter season is knocking on your door. And I love it.

December is just around the corner and before you know it Christmas is here. Then comes the new year full of promise and new steer. It’s truly a magical time of the year.

Yet, it’s not always easy to remember this. You might have a big Christmas meal to plan, family visits to coordinate, and presents to buy. Your social calendar might be full of “Christmas get-togethers”, even with people you barely know. You also want to schedule some rest in so you’re driving yourself mad trying to get everything on your to-do list done. The only problem is that when one thing gets crossed off, a new thing seems to always get added in.

You’re not alone. A lot of people find this time of the year stressful. In fact, some rank the thought of the Christmas season more stressful than that of a burglary. That says a lot! But I don’t think it has to be that bad. In fact, I believe you can make it good. Beautiful. Magical. At least that’s what I do.

I love Christmas but I also love what comes with it here in the Northern hemisphere: the winter season. It’s one of my favourite times of the year.

This is why I want to help you to love the winter season a little more. I want you to be able to get out of the house and smile as you see something wintery. I want you to be able to lower your stress about Christmas by upping your joy and excitement about winter.

How? Very simply. I’m going to share my top 13 reasons why I love the winter season, one for every week of winter. Then I’m going to encourage you to make your own list too. Then, you’ll find it easier to find joy in every day and hence suffer from less stress and overwhelm. You’ll experience more moments of contentment and bliss simply by being more mindful this winter season.

Why I Love Winter

  1. The way the ground glitters in the sunshine on a frosty morning.
  2. How cute and cosy I feel in my wool hat with a pom-pom. You’ve always got to have a pom-pom on your hat.
  3. Creating a glowing space of hygge with scented candles all around the house.
  4. Sitting under a blanket by the roaring fire in the fireplace. Before I had one, I used to put a roaring fireplace on from Netflix. I swear I could still feel the heat and smell the wood burning.
  5. Drinking infinite cups of herbal tea. I try them all. You’ll rarely find me without a mug in my hand throughout the winter season.
  6. Wearing comfy knits which make you feel like you’re constantly being hugged.
  7. Stargazing in the cold. The frosty nights always bring forth the best stars.
  8. Eating steamy stews. They fill your heart with warmth and they’re also so straightforward to make.
  9. Wearing woolly slippers that make me feel like I’m walking on fluffy clouds. My pup Bond also enjoys the fluff and sneaks a nibble every now and then.
  10. Drinking a glass of mulled wine or glögg at the Christmas markets. I love the festive ambience.
  11. Practically living in my bright red Hunter wellies that keep me comfy and dry outside.
  12. Making snow angels. Throwing snowballs. Going tobogganing. Taking a snowy hike.
  13. Wearing my favourite pieces in my winter wardrobe. Like the cape coat. Or the humongous white, pink and baby blue scarf that is big enough to be worn as a coat. Oh and my black comfy ankle boots. And my navy blue v-neck wrap dress with golden feathers.

I could keep going on and on. But I’ll stop there. Now it’s your turn.

What are your favourite things about the winter season? Reflect on that now and whenever you need a pick me up. You might find yourself breaking out into a smile as you face your days and realise something else you love about the winter season.
