When thunder strikes, you let nature do its thing. After all, it’s not like you can do anything about it. What you can do, however, is to keep calm and admire the magnificence of it. Even after it has passed. Especially if it had some consequences.
That’s what I thought as I found myself without internet in the French countryside last week after one of the most magnificent thunder and lightning storms I’ve ever experienced. It was equally scary and sensational, and I wasn’t surprised to discover it took our internet with it.
The old me would have panicked at this. What do I do know? How do people reach me? I have to do my emails – and post on social media. I have to do my newsletter. Oh no, this is a disaster.
The new me didn’t. She chose to keep calm. Ok. I guess I will go offline for the rest of the week then. I could use some downtime. I’ll go enjoy the outdoors. I’m sure this is universe’s way of pacing me again and telling me to slow down.
So I did – and I slowed down. I switched off and I went outside. I journaled, I reflected, I relaxed. And it was as if my soul was whispering, ‘Thank you‘ to me for slowing down.
It was a great reminder that most (if not all) things do happen for a reason. Sometimes it’s hard to see this in the moment of the challenge because you’re right in the middle of it. But it doesn’t mean you can’t.
Next time you’re stuck in a challenge, you’re frustrated by something or things don’t go to plan, ask yourself:
What could be the reason this is happening?
What could I be learning from this?
How can I make the most out of this?
The more you do this, the easier it becomes, the more peace you will experience, and, weirdly, the more in control you will feel. Just keep doing it and you will find your mindset slowly starting to shift.
